EMPLOYMENT FOR TEACHERS: BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION
QUALIFICATIONS FOR TEACHERS
1. Residence. We usually only employ teachers from EU countries or those from outside the EU who already have legal residence in Spain.
2. Education. Teachers should have a good level of education and be interested in improving themselves. Most teachers will have a university degree but more important than the degree is the interest in one´s continuing education and also the willingness/ disposition to help others.
3. TEFL. Teachers are usually expected to have at least a RSA TEFLA, CELTA or TRINITY qualification.
4. Experience. We like to employ teachers with experience of teaching TEFL in good language academies. However increasingly we are looking for candidates with experience of Young Learners. These could be teachers with a Primary or Secondary background but with a TEFL qualification, or TEFL teachers who have had experience of teaching children or teenagers in well run academies.
5. Personal Attributes. We consider that personal qualities are more important than any other consideration. We look for teachers who are good professionals or are going to turn into good professionals. That is people who like teaching, take pride in doing a good job and like to see their pupils learn. They should be friendly, eager to learn, easy to work with, willing to share ideas, good humoured and prepared to make a positive contribution to the school. We for our part try to be friendly, understanding, supportive and provide good conditions.
Although teachers are usually British and usually young, we try not to have any national, racial, sexist or age prejudices. We have or have had teachers from Ireland, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, Belgium, France, Malta and Brazil including teachers from different ethnic backgrounds.
